Our Favorite Children's Books + A Giant Bubble Recipe

I have been telling you I would compile a list of our favorite books to read. We enjoy books in our house, especially my Witten. :) If it has to do with learning, he's all about it (which I love). Anyway, we read books throughout the day, in the car, and especially at bedtime. I probably have 300 children's books, but I love finding new books that we haven't read. I constantly have friends sending me messages asking for new suggestions and I also send messages asking for new suggestions. WE.LOVE.BOOKS. I also try to think of fun activities for the kids to do with each book. I guess it's just the teacher in me. But we have fun!

Okay, so here are a few of our favorites.

1. The Wide-Mouthed Frog
2. Fancy Nancy & The Budding Ballerina
3. Little Blue Truck
4. Brown Bear, Brown Bear
5. The Very Quiet Cricket
6. The Very Lonely Firefly
7. Dear Zoo
8. Mia and the Too Big TuTu.
9.  It Looked Like Spilt Milk
10. Mouse Count
11. Little Blue, Little Yellow
12. Good Night Gorilla

Witten came home from school after they had talked about frogs and told me he loved the "BIG" Frog book. I looked at his What Did We Do? page and she had listed this book as one they read. I knew I had this one, so I pulled it out and we have been reading it almost every night since. Kinsley loves it too. It's a cute, pop up book, so the kids love this. Most definitely the most read book in our house at the moment.

This is one of Kinsley's favorite books at the moment. She loves Fancy Nancy!

Both of my kids enjoy this book; however, I think Witten enjoys it more than Kinsley these days.

Witten really enjoys this book. He "reads" it (has it memorized).

Both of my kiddos love this book too. At the end, the page makes the noise of a cricket. Super cute!

Both of my kiddos love this book too. At the end, the page has a bunch of fireflies that are blinking.  Super cute!

Cute book. Both of the kids enjoy this one.

This is Kinsley's first year in dance and she really enjoys this book.

This is definitely a favorite in our house. Each page has a white picture on it, that is a bird, birthday cake, etc. It's a cute book.

This is a good one to learn counting 1-10. We really enjoy this one. You could also use fake mice for the kids to count into a jar. Cute!

This is a fun one that we enjoy. You can give each child a little ball of blue and yellow play-doh and let them play with it and mix it. Then, they will see that it turns green. My kids love this one.

Both kiddos LOVE this book, especially the page where the lights are off and the lady feels a gorilla in the bed. They read this page over and over again... and scream and giggle. It's fun.

Here are a few more that I plan on introducing to the kids. I think they will enjoy them. When I taught Kindergarten, these were a few we read the last week of school (on our fun days). I will post some more of our favorite summer time books!

This book is always a fun one to read and then, pull out some bubbles and go outside!

This is always a fun one too.

Please excuse this picture, it's awful... However, this is a fun one to read. Then, give your kiddos a piece of bubble gum and let them practice blowing bubbles. Fun, fun!

And for a fun, gigantic bubble recipe:

6 cups water (distilled is best but tap water is fine)
1/2 cup blue Dawn dish soap
1/2 cup corn starch
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp glycerine

Dissolve the cornstarch in the water, stirring really well.  Then gently stir in the remaining ingredients.  Avoid creating a lot of froth.  Allow your mixture to sit for 2 hours!

**The first several bubbles popped immediately, but the more we played with the mixture, the silkier it got, and within a few minutes, we were creating HUGE bubbles.

**There are several different ways to make your own giant bubble wand on Pinterest or you can buy them.

So, there you have it... some of our favorite kids books. There are so many more we enjoy, but that is a small few. Grab one of these or any good book, snuggle up with your child and read to them. It is fun for everyone and is so beneficial for your kiddos. Happy Reading! :)

What are your favorite books to read with your kiddos? Please comment and share yours.
